IMMS Sea Turtle Satellite Tracking- Group Ridley 5

In the Summer of 2012, IMMS returned many endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles to their home in the Mississippi Sound. These sea turtles were all rescued and rehabilitated at IMMS's Center for Marine Education and Research located in Gulfport, Mississippi. Most of the sea turtles were caught on hook and line at local fishing piers in Mississippi. Before being released, some of the sea turtles were equipped with satellite tracking devices that will allow IMMS researchers to track the movement migration patterns of these animals. Little is known about Kemp's Ridley sea turtles in Mississippi. The satellite tags will allow us to learn valuable information about the movement migration patterns of this endangered species.

Release of Kemp's Ridley "Terminator"

Terminator is a sub-adult Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Bay St. Louis, MS on May 12, 2012. After rehabilitation at IMMS, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on September 7, 2012.

Carly is a juvenile Loggerhead sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Ocean Springs, MS on July 24, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Cat Island MS on August 13, 2012.

Yurtle is a juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Bay St. Louis, MS on June 10, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on July 6, 2012.

Lynn is a juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Ocean Springs, MS on April 29, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on July 6, 2012.

Hugo is a juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Gulfport, MS on May 30, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on July 6, 2012.

Deborah is a juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Waveland, MS on June 1, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on June 21, 2012.

Rambo is a juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtle who was caught on a fisherman's hook on a pier in Waveland, MS on May 12, 2012. After rehabilitation, the turtle was released just south of Ship Island MS on June 7, 2012.
